Digital Marketing News Topics Week 15 2024

Here’s another instalment of Move Ahead Media’s Weekly News Round Up. There are so many things to discuss so let’s get straight to it! This week, we take you through Google’s webmaster report and Meta’s new audience targeting enhancements. We also explore the dominance of video ads and inform you about crucial security patches affecting WordPress sites!

Whether you’re a seasoned digital marketing professional or curious about what’s happening, this blog is for you! Let’s start.

Updates on Meta’s Audience Targeting Insights

Meta has been busy! They launched an update to their audience targeting insights within Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns. This new feature is called the “engaged customers audience segment”. It gives advertisers more tools to reach their target audience across Meta’s platforms.

You can find this new segment to analyse results in Ads Manager by going to the “Demographics by Audience Segments” section. There, you will find separate fields for customers like new, existing and engaged.

Now you’ll get audience recommendations and improved targeting by expanding options! You can base it on user behaviour, interests or interactions.

Advertisers should use this update to refine their strategies and maximise ROI. This applies to all Meta platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

Meta is also enhancing their user privacy controls for transparency.

YouTube and X come out on top of EMarketer’s Industry KPI Data

We’d like to share an interesting new study by EMarketer. They found that YouTube is currently dominating the social media advertising landscape! The study uses KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as average watch time and ad viewability. This demonstrates a platform’s effectiveness in capturing and retaining engagement.

X, previously known as Twitter, came as a strong second for social attention. Followed by Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, and Snapchat respectively.

The data shows a significant shift towards video content consumption. This is why YouTube came out as the preferred channel for both users and advertisers.

What does this mean for ads? It reinforces the need for businesses to prioritise video marketing efforts. Advertisers should perhaps consider allocating resources to capitalise on YouTube’s popularity.

This touches on last week’s blog about how YouTube’s CPO is focusing on authentic and immersive content for its viewers. You can read more about it here.

Vulnerabilities Found In Elementor WordPress Plugin

Bad news for the 5 million active WordPress Elementor users worldwide. It has been reported that a total of six unique XSS vulnerabilities have been found in the plugin. This poses security threats for some sites that use the plugin.

The issues unfortunately may allow attackers to inject malicious codes into a site. Though unrelated to each other, the issues came from insufficient security, input sanitisation, and output escaping.

Here’s a list of the six vulnerabilities that are rated as a medium-level security threat.

  1. Elementor Website Builder (CVE-2024-2117)
  2. Elementor Website Builder Pro (and maybe free) (CVE-2024-2120)
  3. Elementor Website Builder Pro (CVE-2024-1521)
  4. Elementor Website Builder Pro (CVE-2024-2121)
  5. Elementor Website Builder Pro (CVE-2024-1364)
  6. Elementor Website Builder Pro (CVE-2024-2781)

The Elementor team has swiftly responded to this threat by releasing a security patch.

Executing the vulnerabilities above requires attackers to have contributor-level access. But even so, we encourage the users to update to the latest version of the plugin as soon as possible to mitigate the risk of exploitation. Google Webmaster Report: April 2024

Here it is, Google’s Webmaster report for April 2024. And it’s a big one.

This report provides insights into all the recent developments and trends in the online and SEO business. It discusses key highlights such as algorithm changes, SERP features, and core/spam updates. There’s also talk about ranking fluctuations, user experience and indexing issues. And that’s only the start of it.

Compared to last month’s very slow report, this month is the opposite.

Google has finally started testing their Search Generative Experience (SGE) based AI overviews! Something they have been working on since last year. They also updated their quality rating guidelines and launched new maps and shopping features.

All this and more in the article below!
